Well, well, well! Who said the dawg was no longer able to patrol the dawg house? Not me! I said that Tosky would play tonight in his recent Raycroftian manner! Boy was I wrong! Look out Tosky! The dawg is back in the dawghouse!
In fact my sources* are telling me that Tosky is super close to being traded to the Senatards for Jason Spezza. My sources* are telling me constantly that the deal, soon to be finalized will be as follows. To Ottawa: Tosky, Kaberle, 2nd rounder. To Toronto: Spezza, stick, assorted towels. This deal may or may not go down, depending on if Ottawa decides if it is re-building, or re-structuring.
I personally feel that Ottawa needs to re-build, but the fans, ownership and GM seem to be in total denial of this. The Leafs could use some new towels, from what I understand, and someone on the team probably broke a stick this week. As for Spezza. He's from the Toronto area, and if he's going to have the "eye of the tiger" anywhere, it'll be in Hogtown, the big smoke, the centre of the universe, TO, (that's all the nicknames I know).
I actually, have to admit. I see more promise for the future in the Leafs, than I do in the Senators. Alfredsson, Heatly (nowhere to be found), Spezza (hating Ottawa), and Nobody else. Nobody outside of southern ontario knows anything about all of these players that Ottawa supposedly touts. They put all their eggs in three players, just like Tampa and now they suck. They have never had a goalie, and they suck. Did I mention they suck? Can't remember.
Anyways. Happy New Year to my many thousands of superhockeygenius readers. And may God bless you this year. And if not God, then some other powerful entity that has the ability to affect your life.

No Stajan tonight! He's playing soccer now! Plus, can Leafs ever win again?
Matt Stajan will not be in the line up tonight, as the Leafs host the stanky Thrashers. He injured his eye rough-housing with his team mates and a soccer ball. The ball bounced off a wall and smashed his face to pieces. He is out for 2 weeks. Oh well.
Look for Toskala to have another terrible game. He has been Raycroftian during this latest losing streak, and without him, there is no chance. Kinda like "without the United way, there would be no way" , except not really.
I have no idea what to expect in this one, although I think it'll be a tie. Whenever i don't know what the hell is going to happen I pick a tie. 3-3. Eat that! I'm tired.

I'll assume they won?
Hi everybody! I was at the Buffalo Bills game yesterday. Hence I missed the Leafs and Capiturds game! I will assume the Leafs won? 5-0? 5-1? Probably?

Tonight! Christmas egg? Or Christmas pudding?
Will the Leafs lay a fat steaming Christmas egg tonight in Long Island? or will they serve up a delectable frothy Christmas pudding?
The Leafs traveled early this morning, and in a pre-game interview Matt Stajan looked kinda tired. Maybe too much of Grandma's Ham Pie? DiPietro is back in net for the isles after two and a half months of not playing. Rumour has it he lay on his big fat gunt during that whole time. This is just a rumour though (that I may have just made up, can't remember).
None the less, the Leafs owe coach Wilson a big effort after the turd they sprayed on tuesday night against Dallas. I'm looking for this game to be strangely close. 6-4 Leafs. Hat-trick for Grabbers.
For superhockeygenius.blogspot.com, I'm superhockeygenius. Thank me later. Bye the way, of all the games tonight, my betting "lock of the night" is Vancouver over Edmonton. K bye!!

What's the difference between Justin Pogge, and Vesa Toskala? A: Toskala has a groin injury!
Tonight! Pogge gets his first NHL start in the nets! The Atlanta Thrashers are going to have no idea what to do! There is no game tape on him! They'll just probably shoot right at his chest and see what happens!
Prediction? Leafs shutout! I say this because the media wants this soooo bad. They want to create some kind of buzz with this guy, and then they will create further buzz about how Toskala is excellent trade bait! Pogge is a big guy, and it'll be interesting to see how he uses his size between the pipes!
The game is on Leaf tv, meaning you have to be rich to watch it. I will be illegally streaming it from an offsite server in turks and Cacos (sp?) .
Oh and by the way, if you bet on the Leafs last game, as per my advice? Thank me now!
I'm superhockeygenius! Thank me later! (my new catch phrase)

Tonight! Leafs! Penguins! Leafs will win!! Here's why!!
Much has been made of the dynamic duo of Crosby and Malkin. However hovering below the radar is another dynamic duo worthy of attention! Blake-Moore! These two just can't get enough of each other, and while the Leafs will use all of their "shutdown" powers to thwart the the penguin duo, it is unlikely the favour will be reciprocated!
Look for Blake and Moore to expose the penguins for what they are tonight! A team with two good players, and a bunch of other guys.
Toskala is on a roll (save thursday at Boston) and will continue to roll. Most prognosticators will say that this game is going to be a white wash for Pittsburgh! I'm saying bet that $100 on the Leafs, and thank me later.
I'm superhockeygenius. Thank me later!

BIG NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sundin joins Wellwood in Vancouver!!!!!!
Sundin is a Canuck! Now he can continue either missing the Playoffs, or only getting to the second or third round, with a new team!! Congrats!! I guess money does talk!!

SPin-arama!!
Jason Blake is the spin-arama champion! This one move last night, which won the game for the Leafs was worth 4 million dollars! Don't look now, but the Leafs are knocking on the door of a playoff spot! Wouldn't that be neat? I think so!
Well, 57% of you voted that "no amount of Tie Domi's" could screw in a light bulb! Well done! Vote in the new poll. Leafs and Beaners tomorrow. Should be physical and fun!

Leafs Devils Game NIght!
The Leafs host the Brodeurless Devils tonight. Haggers is STILL out with head problems. So How can't this be a blood bath in favour the Leafs? It will be! Look for the Leafs to dominate in all departments. Playing a disciplined game is all the Leafs need to do to take this one 6-0. I don't even know who plays in net for New Jersey when Brodeur is hurt! Some chump no doubt! I will have a much more thorough breakdown of the events tomorrow. I'm super busy today. But seriously. 6-0. Bank on it! And if you haven't voted in the pool you have until midnight. Currently, "No amount of domis" is winning! Not surprising. Oh and hey, what about Strahlman being sent down! Crazy! he must be pissed! Burke is mean. The first European bites the dust!

Game on! Vanek-Blake showdown!
The Sabres host the red hot (one win in a row) Maple Leafs! The Sabres are looking for their fourth consecutive victory. Leading the way is Thomas Vanek, who has 22 goals this season. What the Sabres don't know is that Blake is coming off a three point gem against the Islanders, and is poised to lead his upstart Leafs to a rare Buffalo victory! I don't know about you, but I like my Buffalo Burger rare! hahahahahahahahaha.
Mike Van Ryn is back for the Leafs! He went down some four or five weeks ago with injuries to every part of his body. Not even the late great Eval Kneival can boast so many injuries from one fall! Funnily enough, the Leafs mini losing streak began when Van Ryn went down, so look for them to pick up right where they left off with him in the lineup.
This years Leaf team matches up much much better to Buffalo's speedy style of play. This should be a fast paced, and feisty affair, with a couple fights. Toskala seems to be in form now, so look for him to be strong.
So. Superhockeygenius? What will the score be? Well that's a great question, thanks for asking. The Leafs will get out to a 4-0 start, and hang on to win 5-3 with an empy netter. Blake will score three. Van Ryn one, Stemper one. Vanek will get injured. So will Antropov. I know I know, what a bold prediction! But I am a genius, so just don't question it, or worry about it ok. Oh and vote in the new poll. Ok bye now. Yep. Bye.

Blake gets 3 points!!! I predicted 3 points!! (goals, but hey! come on!).
Well just as I said, Blake would want to stuff it to his old team! And he sure did! He and call-up Jeremy Williams seemed to work super well together, with Williams picking up a goal and an assist! Blake was even smiling on the bench! He never smiles!
The Leafs are now a Stanley Cup contender! As I mentioned, the winner of this game will win the cup! The parade will most likely run down Yonge Street, to Front Street, Down Bay Street to the ACC! It will start at 11 AM.
You have to think that the Leafs really should think about finding a permanent spot on the roster for Williams. He seems to get called up for a game or two every year, and score in all of them. Just give the guy a spot.
Here's a trade rumour that I'm working on with several sources*: Antropov to Calgary for Lombardi. This gives Calgary another big time body for the power play, and gives the Leafs yet another exceptionally speedy forward that will fit into their five on five game plan. I like Antropov, I just feel that with the roster the Leafs are working with right now, that he doesn't seem to really jam with the game plan. Lombardi with Grabovski could be super scary! We can always throw Poni in front of the net for the powerplay. He's big. Come on Poni, get in front!
Another trade rumour that my sources* are telling me that is possible is Kaberle to the Rangers for Dubinsky. Go for it!
The Leafs have a few days off now. I don't think they play until Friday. And get this! I don't think they are playing on Saturday! This will be one of the first Saturdays since super old people were super young that the Leafs won't command the 7pm HNIC slot! Welcome to the future.
* Sources are totally made up. They are figments of my imagination, or friends who made up stuff and told me about it.

Game night! Haggers out! Schenners out! Comrie out! Gervais out! DiPietro out! Who's in?
It's game night at the ACC! This is the hottest ticket in town tonight! Two of the leagues up and coming teams square off. The winner will no doubt be an declared an early Stanley Cup favourite!
No confirmation, but it looks like Haggers is out with a sore head, and Schenn with a sore "lower body" (probably a choda strain. In fact anytime it is described as "lower body" from now on, I will call a choda strain). Both of these teams are not so good at the winning thing lately. But here's something I know! One of these teams will totally win!
The Islanders are absolutely crap. Must be tough being the GM of that team. The only way that you can get players to play there is to draft them, or trade for them! No free agent is going to go there unless they are grossly overpaid!
Look for Jason Blake to have a big night. This is his old team, and he would like nothing more than to stuff it down their throats! I am predicting a hat-trick for Blake!! It will be amazing!! If Toskala plays, the leafs will get a shut out, if Joseph plays, it will be a shoot out.
Toskala will probably play. I don't think Joseph is going to be around much longer. He is super old. A super nice guy I'm sure, but a super nice, super old guy. prediction? 5-0 Leafs!
If you have tickets for the game, consider scalping them. This could net you a grand easy, for greens, and three to four grand for gold or platinum. Then you can take that money, go home, order a bunch of chicken, then roll around in that chicken, and the money, and watch the game, while eating random pieces of chicken that you've just rolled around in.
Ok, bye now!!

Huh!
Well. I was quite certain that the Leafs would win this one six nothing! It was in fact my "lock of the week". But here's the thing! I might be a hockey genius, but I'm not like Jesus or anything!
Jesus is a Leaf fan! I know this because I asked my priest last weekend at church, where I go every weekend to pray/thank the almighty for all of my good fortune.
The Leafs seemed to not know what to do tonight. They were so concerned about stopping the washington attack, that they forgot to shoot pucks at the opposing net. If ( as Ronny Wilson says) this season is ALL about the process of playing his style of game, and NOT about wins and losses, then WHY did the Leafs play a style of game tonight completely NOT within his style of play? (his being Wilson). Just asking? As a hockey fan, and as a genius.
Anyways. Shooting the puck is important. The Leafs didn't do that so much. So, you reap what you sow. Too bad. I think that the Leafs seemed to have the skating legs tonight and would have done well to play the aggressive style that coach Wilson (supposedly) wants them to play! But who am I? Oh right! Just a super hockey genius!

Moore,Poni, Blake, form new "Super Line" !!!!
Well the Leafs head coach Ronny Wilson switched up his lines tonight against the stinky Coyotes! He placed Moore, Poni, and Blake together! The result? Poni 2 Goals! Blake 3 points!! Pinch me am I dreaming? I will call this line BlaPonMo!
While the Leafs hung in there, and managed to continually come back from one goal down, they eventually lost steam. Probably a result of the incorrect power-shake recipe again! Stinky Coyotes coach Wayne Gretzky was excited about the win " I think we really played a Gretzky style game. All awesome and the best and stuff" said Gretzky.
Leafs fly home, and face the Washington Capiturds on Saturday! This is a huge mis-match. Look for the Leafs to shut down Ovechkin easily, and take this on 6-0. Go ahead and bet on that, it's my lock of the week!

So anyways....... as i was saying.
I don't understand why so many people are so in favour of this YOUNG Leafs team tanking it this season! We have a young team. So if this young team can make the playoffs, that's awesome! It means that we are AHEAD of schedule in the re-build. Philly did it, why can't we? I think too many people have the mind set that it takes years and years of being horrible to effectively re-build! This is just not the case! In the new, fast NHL it is entirely feasible to re-build quickly. Keep a few veterans (Kubina, Kaberle, Mayers, Antropov), get rid of some dead weight (Tucker, Kilger, Belak, Wellwood(yes wellwood), Bell, etc etc) and add some new youth! Stempniak (or as I like to now call him Wayne Gretzky), Grabovski, Hagman, and you've got something with an upside! So screw those who think we should just finish last! If we can make the playoffs with this team, then let's do it!
The 2006 Oilers were an example of a team very similar to these Leafs. And through simple work ethic made the finals. Their forecheck was outstanding. Goal tending outstanding, and sprinkle in a few wiley veterans, and voila!! Finals! Yah! Kick ass!
The Leafs take on the Howling Stinky Coyotes tonight! They are 11-11-2. Wayne Gretzky is the coach. This will be the first time he will have had to coach against the newly nick-named (stempniak) Wayne Gretzky! I look for the Leaf version of Wayne Gretzky to get a hat-trick! Not just because he's awesome, but because he's in my pool! So is Toskala, so he will get a shutout!
Leafs 9 Stinky Coyotes 0 It's gonna be swwwwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finger gets a breakaway!! (and Leafs win)
Toskala was awesome! I only saw the last period because I'm super busy, but I saw the best part! Both Leaf goals and a Finger breakaway! I bet you years pass before the next time you see Jeff Finger on a breakaway! It'll probably never happen ever again in fact! I'll be an old man, and I can tell my grand kids where I was when I saw Jeff Finger on a breakaway! (on my couch with the lap top, half drunk , watching online from that peer to peer British website that I talked about in a previous blog).
Grabbers gets the winner, and Toskala is back! Look for him to start tomorrow against his former team. The San Jose Stinky Sharks! The Sharks have the best record in the West, however I can call them stinky if I want! I answer to nobody! I'm not on Rogers payroll, or beholden to facts or whatever! I'm superhockeygenius! So there! Stinky Sharks! Stinky Sharks! Their 20 wins are a fluke! They stink! If Finger gets a breakaway tomorrow night, I'll pull his finger.
Other notes. Jamal Mayers broke his hand. Perhaps a tlusty or Devereaux call up? Also, special thanks to Giuseppe for posting some outstanding Deveaux stats today! Super work! This is super! Blogging is fun!

Los Angeles. The city of Angels. And a bad bad ice hockey team!
Leafs, Los Angeles, tonight! Blake will play! I'll have a thorough account of the game later. But for now I have to work on some Anze Kopitar jokes.

Brian Burke Scores Winner In Leafs Debut!!!
Well Brian Burke wasted little time putting his stamp on the Toronto Maple Leafs! Just 2:10 into the second period, the Leafs new President, GM, and Sniper notched his first goal as a Leaf! It would prove to be the winner, as an outstanding Vesa Toskala shut the door from that point on. Burke tried to downplay the significance of his accomplishment after the game, but to a win starved Leaf Nation it most likely fell on deaf ears. "I just wanted to approach the first game like any other" said a humbled Burke " I may be 52 years old, but I still think I bring an intangible to this team that may have been lacking. I just hope I can maintain this type of pace for the remainder of the season, and hopefully deep into the playoffs".
With his three million dollar price tag, one can only hope. Burke wore the number 13, and swore it had nothing to do with his insistence prior to the game that Sundin was most likely not returning to the Blue and White.
While time will only tell if the impact he inflicted on this team can translate into wins for the duration of his six year contract, one thing is certain, this guy plays to win! Outgoing GM Cliff Fletcher for example only managed one assist during his tenure with the team, and that was a pass from Grabovski intended for Dominic Moore, that went off of his ass and onto the stick of Hagman!
Congrats Burke, Leafs, and Leafs Nation! This upcoming road trip should be nothing short of exciting!

Lord Burke Assumes Control.
Lord Burke has assumed control of the Maple Leafs. He will sit on a throne atop the ACC watching, judging, and chewing tobacco, at tonights tilt with the hot Philly Flyers.
As mentioned in previous blogs, the "show-off syndrome" will be in effect. All Leafs skaters will no doubt be skating their asses off, in an attempt to wow their new God. Let's take a look at who is hot and who is not.
Philly. Niitymaki, Gagne, Carter! HOT HOT HOT!
Leafs. Haggers, Grabbers, Toskala. HOT HOT HOT!
Antro, Joseph NOT NOT NOT HOT!
The Flyers are super good. But I always predict a Leaf win, and today will be no exception, especially in light of the new Saviour being in attendance! Leafs 7 Philly 0

Deveaux better than Blake!!! Shhhhhhhh
Shhhhhh. Don't tell anyone! New comer Andre Deveaux who made his Leafs debut last evening against the disgusting Senators, is better than 4 million dollar man Jason Blake!
Sources* close to the Leafs have told me that even once Blake is healthy and no longer smelling burnt toast, Deveaux will stay in the line up! This is good news for a team lacking toughness, and a real agitator. Let's take a closer look.
Deveaux:
Big: yes
young: yes
Can score: yes
Cheap: yes
Team player: yes
Fights: yes
Blake:
Big: no (unless you count ego)
young: no (unless you're talking in non-hockey terms)
Can score: no (not anymore)
Cheap: hahahahahahahahaha no
Team player: no
Fights: well no. Pushes and shoves sometimes.
The new GM will have no emotional attachment to Mr Blake. Coach Wilson seems to have made it clear that he wants Deveaux to stay. So? I think it's time for Blake to go to the minors! (which he will love!!) or perhaps a buyout. A buyout would make no business sense though. You heard it here first! I sure wouldn't want to be sitting near Blake when Burke tells him he's on his way on a bus to meet the Marlies for a match-up in Scranton!

Leafs Limp into Lame L-Ottawa
The lethargic Leafs limp into lame L-Ottawa this evening! Unlike last game, this one is actually on a real tv channel. Not the fake pay channel that they pretend to be on sometimes. So unlike last game I can watch it on a tv, and not streaming online from some obscure British peer to peer operation, complete with a chatroom where everyone calls everyone a wanker all game.
Jason Blake still smells burnt toast, and is therefore out of the line up for the foreseeable future. The leafs have called up some giant guy from the Marlies to take his place. Some guy named Deveaux or something. Well at least he's a giant. You have to wonder though how Boyd Deveraux (sp) feels about being left out of the call-up mix. I bet he's super pissed off, and super angry. So angry that maybe he'll try and punch someone in the face today for no reason.
Anyways, this giant guy will be in the line up. The Sens stink, so look for them to stink again. 6-0 Leafs. Hey why not! Could happen!
Vote in the poll! It's a deadlock right now between Stempy, stemper, lester and Wayne Gretzky!

St Louis Wins!!!! Steen and Cola don't play!! Oh and Leafs get smoked!
Well if you read my blog from earlier today, I introduced my new (and patented) theory called "show-off syndrome". This is when a team that has just made a trade, plays awesome in the first game after said trade. And this is because the players on said team tend to show-off and try super extra hard, to show their new team mates that they are totally awesome.
Well the Leafs totally embarrassed me tonight! Now my patented theory has been put to question! I stand by my "show-off syndrome" theory, and blame the Leafs. I would like to particularly blame the training and nutritional staff of the Leafs for not giving the players the correct blend of power shakes today. I think it is quite clear that had they had the proper nutrition, they would have had a much easier time showing-off for their new team mate Stemper!
Cujo was horrible, Blake got hurt, White fought Kovalchuk, Finger "banged" in his first goal as a Leaf. Sundin, where are you man! Hurry up! What are you doing? Get over here man!
Leafs/Senators Thursday. Look for a huge rebound by the Leafs, as they will have had a days rest, and the proper power shakes.

Stemper (or Stempy if you prefer) to make his debut!!
Well it's official. The Leafs new acquisition Stemper will make his debut this evening against the horrible Thrashers! The deal was made official late this afternoon, after all parties passed their respective physical exams. While it was touch and go as to whether "Cola" would pass his, doctors found that he met the minimal requirements. He did have a strange rash, but it was simply an allergy to bananas. He has vowed to stop eating them. At least during the season. Problem is Cola loves bananas, and the idea of not eating them hurts him deep down. Imagine having to give up something you love sooooo bad! It's tough, very tough. I should know, I had to give up shrimp because it made my choda swell up to the size of a beach ball. Anyways
Look for a huge night for the Leafs. When teams make trades, the other players on the team typically try super hard, because they like to show off to their new team mates and act like they're always super awesome. This is why I am predicting the Leafs 5-1 victory. Blake two goals, Stempy two assists (on Blakes goals). I am also predicting that St. Louis will win tonight too. For the very same reasons. "Show off syndrome" . This term is copyrighted. So don't steal it unless you quote superhockeygenius. I mean it! I'm hungry. Bye for now! 5-1 Leafs!!

Trade!!Trade!!Trade!! Holy Shit!! It's a Trade!!!
The St.Louis Blues have traded super star Lee Stempniak to Toronto for Colaiocovo, Steen and a helmet!
After furious negotiations The Maple Leafs landed the greatest scorer in NHL history today! Lee Stempniak will join the Leafs this week. The Leafs almost balked at this trade when St Louis demanded not only Steen and Colaiocovo, but a helmet! According to sources* Leafs GM Cliff Fletcher eventually agreed to the helmet demand, however insisted that he hadn't given up too much.
"Giving up Steen and Cola for the greatest player of the modern era was as easy decision" said Fletcher at an afteroon presser.
"However, we only have so many helmets to use all year, and to have to part ways with one and get nothing in return, was very humbling. I just hope I've done the right thing"
Fletcher is notorious for being a risk taking trader. His risks usually pay off. Time will tell if Stemper (his new nickname I made up) can live up to his reputation as the greatest player of the modern era. Let's just hope that no current Leaf cracks his helmet anytime soon though, or this deal could come back to haunt Mr. Fletch!
Should be an interesting week !

An account of tonights Leafs Hawks game before it happens!!! What is this guy psychic? Nope! Just a super hockey genius!
Vesa Toskala was outstanding last night as the Leafs welcomed the Chicago Blackhawks to the ACC for an all original six match up! Despite giving up 5 goals he kept his team close when it counted, as the leafs managed to come back, yet again from 2 goals down, to defeat the Hawks 6-5 in a dramatic shootout.
Thomas Kaberle would score the eventual winner in the 9th round of the shootout, setting off a frenzied celebration.
The Leafs were slow out of the gate, and if not for some timely power plays were looking like they may get buried by the constant Hawks barrage. Patrick Kane was outstanding, scoring 3 goals, and adding one assist in a losing effort.
The game was delayed due to an over the top Wendel Clark tribute, that was more fitting of a prince than a hockey player.
Hagman, Grabovski, Moore (2), and Pavel Kubina tallied for the Leafs in regulation play. Alex Steen, was held scoreless, however his penalty killing was exceptional for the Leafs!
What a super game! What a super game it was!!

The Following Needs To Happen Today For The Leafs To Win Tonight!
A conversation between Ron Wilson and Nik Antropov:
RW: Hey Nik
NA: Oh hey Ron.
RW: How are you?
NA: Fine. (awkward silence)........... you?
RW: Oh I'm good. Hey. (points to his face) What's this?
NA: Uhhhhhh, your face?
RW: Nope.
NA: You got me. what is it?
RW: It's my grill!
NA: It is?
RW: Yep. You know Luongo has a grill! Everybody has a grill! Tim Thomas has a grill too!
NA: Really?
RW: Yep. Every human man has a grill. You know what your job is?
NA: No
RW: Your job is to get all up in it!
NA: All up in it?
RW: Exactly! Tonight, I want YOU to get "all up in" Tim Thomas' grill! Understand?
NA: Sure, I think so. Like get all up in it?
RW: Exactly! That way we can score goals! Because when you're all up in a goalies grill, he can't see the puck!
NA: Ahhhhhhhh, I get it!! Ok I'll give it a shot!
RW: Thanks Nik! Get all up in it tonight!
NA: Ok! I will!
RW: Good! Good.

Well at least Luongo didn't get a shutout!!
Well, for some reason the Leafs refused once again to "get all up in the grill "of the opposing goaltender! Why is this? As mentioned in previous blogs, it may be that they are actually sissies! Time will only tell.
What more can you say about this game, other than Vancouver is a horribly boring team to watch. Especially when they get the lead! Simply horrible! Leafs play Boston on Monday night! More on that tomorrow! I need to lie down and think about things.
Vancouver is boring! Take that Vancouver, while you celebrate your two lame points! Boring!

Easy 2 points tonight! Horrible Vancouver hosts Super Leafs
Fresh off an impressive victory over the upstart Edmonton Coilers, the Leafs find themselves in Canada's most over-rated city. Here in the city with no night life, the Leafs look to liven things up! Loungo is only one man, and when faced with the 45-55 shots that he will tonight, he will have no choice but to go the way of Deslaurier (Coiler goalie).
The Leafs skating has been outstanding and has been giving opposing teams fits. Their line up from top to bottom is relentless, and few teams seem to be able to cope. The Vancouver Canucks will need Luongo to be super human, and they will need the silly Sedin sisters to have the game of their lives. This is unlikely to happen, because much like the city of Vancouver itself, the Sedin sisters are over-rated, and kind of boring. When Kyle Wellwood is your leading goal scorer, you'd best look in the mirror and realize that you need to improve your roster.
I see this game being close at the beginning, but the Canucks will be unable to maintain the pace that the Leafs will set. This will allow for more and more open ice for the Leafs as the game progresses, eventually resulting in more and more goals, and a more and more angry Luongo, which will result in Luongo being pulled by the early third period. Booing will ensue. People will get restless. Riots will occur, and the once sleepy city of Vancouver will be placed in lockdown. The military will be called in, and Vancouver will be declared a disaster zone.
Leafs 8 Vancouver 1
other games tonight! Here's my picks:
Phi 3 Mtl 2 (so) , Wsh 3 Njd1, Ott 1 Nyi 4, Bos4 Nyr3 (so), Buf 2 Pit5, Cbj 0 Min 2, Dal 2 Phx 4, Col5 Edm 1, Nsh 4 Lak 3 (so)

Well, well, well! What do we have here?
So, as you (my many blog followers) will know, I predicted 4-1 for the Leafs! I would have to say that 5-2 is pretty dam close! Just add one. Deslaurier deflated as predicted, and the Leafs maintained a very consistent defense! Now I know what all of you are thinking. "But Blake was good and you said he'd be bad!". Well this is true. However I must say, I've always been a part of the camp that says prove it to me Blake. And in fairness to him he was quite good tonight. Why? Because he kept his game simple. He passed simple passes to players who were in the open. I think he summed it up best in the post game interview. He said "my career has come full circle". In other words, he needed to simplify his game. And while he's talked about doing that ALL year, he finally actually did that tonight. Although in the first period he seemed more interested in pushing and shoving. Whatever gets you into the game I guess.
So, Deslaurier! I think I may have said his bubble would burst! And sound like a tiny fart? And? It did! I swear I heard a very small farting noise when Blake passed the puck to Grabbers for that insurance goal! So now what Edmonton? Who starts next? Super Deslaurier? Benchy Garon? Or Old Man Jaded Roloson? Now you have a real mess on your hands! I think (and hind sight is 20/20 for geniuses) that the Oilers should have (and owed it to) kept with Garon through the tough times. Built up his confidence!
Anyways. I will be giving my weekend Pro-line/sports select (alberta version of pro-line) picks tomorrow! Just in time for your weekend betting pleasure!
The Leafs next game is Saturday night! In Vancouver! 7pm Eastern! I'm so dam tempted to predict the score right now but that would leave me with nothing to talk about on Saturday! Keep it real everybody!

Game Day! What do the Leafs need to do? is Oilers hotshot goalie Droin-Deslaurier the new Ty Conklin? Or the real deal? And also, other stuff!!
The Leafs head up the highway from Calgary (past some very rural and conservative towns where people who live there would punch you in the face if they new you voted Liberal) to take on the recently surging Edmonton Coilers.
The Coilers, fresh back from a 4-3 road trip, hope to maintain momentum and give the amazing Leafs a knock out Alberta punch. Did you know that Alberta used to be called "death valley" by road teams because the Flames and Coilers usually beat the crap out of them . Bet you didn't know that. For sure you probably didn't.
So. This should be a very entertaining game. Both teams pride themselves on fast skating, tenacious forechecking, and general feistiness. If the Leafs can maintain some sort of perimetre defense, and keep the Coiler forwards to the outside, they should be able to squeak out a victory.
No doubt there will be a huge Leaf contingent in the stands cheering for Canada's greatest team. Look for Toskala to start for the Leafs. He has been average as of late, and needs to make a few more big saves. Which brings me to this new Coiler goalie situation.
Who is Drouin-Deslaurier? Fancy name! Sounds like some kind of descendant of some fancy French Canadian Aristocrats! I have several sources* who are telling me that he made this name up to sound like some kind of goalie royalty. His real name, according to sources* is actually Jeff Grunt. His play of late has been very inspiring for the Coil. Leaving last years golden boy Garon (another French Aristocrat) to sit and watch in jealous-awe. But is he the real deal? Is he really just another journeyman goalie beginning his career? Or is he a one in a million can't miss starter.
The Coilers, much like the Canadians, have a history of pumping up goalies as saviours before they are even proven starters. I'm not saying that Drouin-Deslaurier isn't the real deal, but I am saying that he has no business being touted as the next great French goalie! Look for him to let in several weak goals tonight. His bubble will burst, and you'll be able to hear the air squeezing out of the Rexall (or whatever it's called) arena. It will sound kind of like a tiny fart.
Old man Blake should be back in the Leafs lineup tonight. Look for him to continue not scoring. So what do I think will happen? Leafs 4 Coilers 1
Drouin-Deslaurier! Plllllllease!!
* sources are generally made up, or could be a friend with no connection to hockey, or could just be some guy around my neighborhood, like the guy who stands outside the falafal place yelling stuff at people.

Anaheim GM out in Anaheim! Leafs have day off! I'm drinking coffee!
According to TSN, Brian Burke has stepped down as the GM of the Anaheim Ducks. He is now free to negotiate new employment with any team he wishes. Speculation has him coming to Toronto! I personally think Cliff Fletcher should just stay, but who am I really? Just a hockey genius. I find Burke to be angry all the time. You know? It's just hockey guy! Chill the hell out! Make some trades, draft some picks, and just chill the hell out! What is so upsetting about being paid over a million bucks to watch hockey and stuff?

Well......... uhhhhhhhhh.........by 6-2 Leafs I meant uhhhhhhhhhhhh 4-3 Flames?
Kiprusoff WAS on his game tonight, unlike many games as of late. I cannot be held responsible for this Leafs loss. Toskala was average tonight, and would have done well to make that ONE big big time stop that was needed to put the Leafs in a position to at least gain a point.
The Calgary Flames buckled down defensively tonight. Something they haven't done for a good ten days. I thought the Leafs were a touch unlucky, however they got no traffic in front of the Kipper. This is something they did do last game. It was very reminiscent of the game they played last week against Boston. They had the same kind of skating legs, yet no "eye of the tiger" in terms of getting real traffic in front of the opposing goalie. I'm not sure if this is because they just couldn't due to Calgary's skill? Or if they are in fact just a bunch of sissies. Time will only tell.
Jason Blake was apparently furious about being shut out of tonight's action. According to Howard Berger from Hockeybuzz.com he swore and threw his pads and stuff against a wall when he found out he wasn't playing. Well Mr.Blake, what do you think the coach should do? A:Tell you your'e awesome (because of your large salary?) or tell you that you need to take a seat and show it next game? Get a hat-trick against the Edmonton Coilers and prove us all wrong!
On a side note. Flames goalie Kiprusoff was ecstatic that the puck was in fact enlarged for tonight's game, by order of our favourite little guy Gary Bettman. Bettman took time out from his busy schedule as a nerd, to personally declare today, "big puck day".
Congrats to the Flames, and congrats to the Leafs!! Well done! It's a shame there can only be one winner!

GAME DAY UPDATE!!
Old man Blake will be sitting out for the Maple Leafs. He is the highest paid forward on the team, and has posted 2 goals this season. He has a minus 6 rating. Hollweg will play in his place. Hollweg was very pleased to get the start saying "I"m gonna hit someone soooo dam hard from behind, to celebrate!"
Jarome Iginla is questionable with the flu. Phaneuf may not play either due to an eye injury! So who the hell knows what to expect! I wouldn't bet on this one! Although I'm going to stand by my 6-2 Leaf prediction, because I have nothing to lose. (seriously I don't)

Game Day. Lousy Flames host Grabovski and his team.
The Amazing Maple Leafs roll into Cow-town to face the ridiculously inconsistent Flames. Van Ryn continues to sit out, complaining that he "can smell burnt toast" and that "my hand hurts alot". The Leafs are constantly out-shooting their opponents and tonight should be no different.
Flames Goalie Kiprusoff was recently quoted as saying "I wish the puck was much bigger". He is going to need to be on his game, or this one could get really ugly. Look for Keenan to be fired tomorrow if this turns into a Leaf blowout.
Prediction? Leafs 6 Flames 2. Please enjoy.
